Our Documented Life {October} - Crazy Weather, Halloween and the Every Day Moments

Living in H-town is like living in a furnace, except for the days when we have a 40-degree temperature jump. Layers, y'all. It's the only way to survive here. One day you're dressing your kids in tank tops and two days later you're in long sleeves and hoodies. #becausehouston

Even so, our extended non-fall days spent at the park or in our backyard always lend themselves to the best pictures. Especially when our friends are with us!

And then there was Halloween! I wish I could say we scored big trick or treating but we got majorly rained out this year. Still, we had a good ol' time wearing our pajamas turned costumes for weeks ahead of time. Totally milked it.

Our normal life is the most fun to capture. These are the every day moments that will eventually be forgotten but when preserved in pictures I can remember the little moments that have led up to the bigger ones. That's where it's at, y'all.

Our Documented Life {July 2017 Part One}

July was such a beautiful month. It always is. Not only does my family celebrate the Fourth of July with fireworks and friends and more family, but it's also the month my bearded love and I celebrate our anniversary.

Eight years this year!

I'm also a July baby. I love birthdays. Love, love love.

Then there's summer shenanigans like the Houston Zoo and swimming and friends and lazy days watching tv and playing games.

It's a rich life, y'all. I'm so thankful for it.

Fourth of July fun with my family, friends and a neighborhood fireworks show. Of course, my little sister had to bring her lightup hoop to entertain us while we waited. Sisters got moves, y'all.

Birthday love with my bests, and, yes, some of my best friends are 6 and 8 year olds!

More birthday love with a day spent with my momma.

Random days with friends and our Nana leave us wanting more. Just life in it's ordinary, lovely way.

We go to the zoo for our oldest son's birthday every February. It's glorious. It's not hot. We don't sweat through our clothes nor drive home totally dehydrated.

But the summer is a different story. It's hot. We sweat through our clothes and drive home totally dehydrated.

It's still a good day though. Most days are good days.

Will document more of our days from July in a few weeks. Hope it encourages you, as is always my hope in sharing our life's images, to create your own.

Happy documenting!

Fun Family Session at the Park | Houston Family Photographer

As a Houston family photographer, I have so much fun with my clients taking pictures at the park. The kids are free and uninhibited, knowing an adventure awaits them hiking through the woods, walking around a park or overlooking a marsh full of turtles and fish.

This kind family was happy to be outside, even if little brother started getting tired by the end. Sometimes young kids need a little more TLC. I was happy to capture the last image as he was hiding under his momma's lacy top.

Our Documented Life {May} | Houston Family Photographer

Being a Houston family photographer is wonderful. It's a joy! But I didn't start off thinking: I want to take pictures of people for people. All I wanted was to take pictures. Period. I didn’t want to miss a thing! #extrovertproblems

It all started when I was a young girl, totting around my brand new polaroid at Christmas, asking all my family to strike a pose. Many of those pictures are still with me, safely kept in special boxes and gently handled about once a year when I'm feeling particularly sentimental.

(Because as a professional family picture taker, being sentimental is pretty much a prerequisite.)

I don't want my picture sharing blog posts to be all about the shoots with my clients. As lovely as they are and as much as I enjoy writing those posts, my roots are documentary. My roots are strong and deep in the art of documenting my personal life.

So I'm starting a new blog series documenting our every day! Some of the images in these posts are shared on social media, Instagram especially, but many of them are not. Many of them are images I've taken just for me and my family. And now I want to start sharing them with you!

Standing in line at Target. He holds my hands constantly. I can't get enough photos of these little hands, folded into mine.

For this first documentary post, we're gonna travel back to May. We celebrated Mother's Day that month, and I LOVE the images I captured during dinner that day as we celebrated my momma.

Also, boys will be boys. Mine are great in restaurants but when we're with my mom, something crazy happens and they go wild!

We also had a fun day at the park that month that I documented. The sun was too high so I had to get creative and stay in the shadows. This is another reason why I love documenting our life: it stretches me and makes me a better photographer.

We also went to a lovely greenhouse with some of our best friends in May. I love driving out to the nearby small town of Fulshear. I always have my camera in hand.

My bestie and I have a love affair with succulents and cacti. We walked into this area and both about fell over with joy.

And grocery shopping at HEB. Which I'll have y'all know grocery shopping with a big ol' DSLR in hand is not my idea of a good time, but it's SO worth it.

Houston offers such diverse settings for family photography, and this beautiful sunset maternity session at a Houston park was so sweet and fun and, did I mention beautiful?!

Part two of this maternity session took place in their home so be on the lookout for that next week. While in-home sessions are my favorite, getting outside and on location during the golden hour offers light like nothing else.
