Being a Houston family photographer is wonderful. It's a joy! But I didn't start off thinking: I want to take pictures of people for people. All I wanted was to take pictures. Period. I didn’t want to miss a thing! #extrovertproblems
It all started when I was a young girl, totting around my brand new polaroid at Christmas, asking all my family to strike a pose. Many of those pictures are still with me, safely kept in special boxes and gently handled about once a year when I'm feeling particularly sentimental.
(Because as a professional family picture taker, being sentimental is pretty much a prerequisite.)
I don't want my picture sharing blog posts to be all about the shoots with my clients. As lovely as they are and as much as I enjoy writing those posts, my roots are documentary. My roots are strong and deep in the art of documenting my personal life.
So I'm starting a new blog series documenting our every day! Some of the images in these posts are shared on social media, Instagram especially, but many of them are not. Many of them are images I've taken just for me and my family. And now I want to start sharing them with you!
For this first documentary post, we're gonna travel back to May. We celebrated Mother's Day that month, and I LOVE the images I captured during dinner that day as we celebrated my momma.
Also, boys will be boys. Mine are great in restaurants but when we're with my mom, something crazy happens and they go wild!
We also had a fun day at the park that month that I documented. The sun was too high so I had to get creative and stay in the shadows. This is another reason why I love documenting our life: it stretches me and makes me a better photographer.
When dad goes too fast for Noah and we're all laughing at him. Totally winning parenting, y'all.
We also went to a lovely greenhouse with some of our best friends in May. I love driving out to the nearby small town of Fulshear. I always have my camera in hand.
My bestie and I have a love affair with succulents and cacti. We walked into this area and both about fell over with joy.
These posts are gonna be a bit long. Hope you're still with me!
Here're some random tidbits of our everdayness that made the cut that month.
A few more from Target. #becausetarget
And grocery shopping at HEB. Which I'll have y'all know grocery shopping with a big ol' DSLR in hand is not my idea of a good time, but it's SO worth it.
I've already got June's blog post in the works! Happy documenting, friends.
